Uras is in a good central position, a few minutes from the SS131, and is ideally suited for visiting all parts of the island.

CITIES
The capital city of Cagliari is 40 minutes drive away and the city of Oristano only 20 minutes. For those who don’t relish the idea of driving in the city, the railway station in Uras is part of the main line to both cities. The Medieval city of Oristano is steeped in history, well known for the “Sartiglia” (the equivalent of the Palio of Siena) which occurs during carnival time every year and lasts 4 days. There are many ancient monuments and churches to see.

BEACHES
The nearest beaches are Pistis and Torre dei Corsari , only 30 minutes drive and both have all facilities available, bars, food, toilets etc….. Less than an hours drive for those who want to discover the beautiful beaches of the Costa Verde . The famous sand dunes of Piscinas , the beaches of Scivu, Portixedu, Buggerru , Cala Domestica and Sardinias equivalent of the sugar loaf mountain "Pan di Zucchero" , all with breathtaking views of the sea and coastline. Not far from Oristano are the beaches of San Giovanni di Sinis , Torre Grande and the famous beach of Is Arutas “Spiaggia del Riso”, well known for the sand which is like grains of rice.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES
There are many important archaeological sites to visit nearby, including the Roman Baths at Fordongianus , the Phoenician ruins of Tharros surrounded by the sea, the Temple of Antas , the Nuraghe Losa and the largest and most famous Nuraghe site on the island is that of Barumini only 20 minutes from Uras..

OTHER PLACES OF INTEREST
Other places of interest nearby are the old mining town of Montevecchio , which is now reopened to the public and the town of Laconi, birthplace of Saint Ignazio where you can visit the church and the house where he was born. A walk or a picnic in the surrounding Aymerich woods with its Castle is highly recommended. Laconi is also where you find the Museum of Menhirs.

MOUNTAINS
If you prefer the mountains and walking or climbing, the high plains of the Monte Arci are only 15 minutes from us and you can easily get to the top by car, where you can walk through the woods which are filled with wild flowers and birds. Autumn is the best time for finding good quality wild mushrooms and Spring the best period for wild asparagus.
The Plateau of "Giara di Gestori" with its numerous wild ponies is also surrounded by woods and full of vegetation and birds, the best time to visit is in the spring.
